Green The New Blue!

Rumours were swirling last night that Jake the Peg and The Road Warrior will be taking key positions in the NSW Origin team tonight. Apparently Kermit the Frog will take his place on the interchange bench, alongside Buzz Lightyear and Batman.
Despite being unbackable underdogs and ravaged by injury, Blues coach Craig Bellamy remained bullish and upbeat. “Jake may have lost a yard of pace, but he’s got a brilliant footy brain,” he said. “Mad Max will provide that bit of width and insane violence, while the Dark Knight’s intimidation should be interesting to watch.”
With a half-smile, Bellamy refused to confirm whether or not Kermit would take his place in the centre, a cunning tactical move sure to frustrate the Maroons’ plans. “It’s not easy being green,” he chuckled, as reporters shook their heads and wrote stories headlined “Blues kidding themselves”.

“I’m pretty much relieved.”

Marat Safin, heading fast for retirement, after losing at Wimbledon.

The Bucket has just collected on all the bets he had a month ago, when Shane Watson was named in the Ashes squad. I predicted that Watson would be injured way before July 8, and so it came to pass. Watson is a truly excellent cricketer, if only his body didn’t let him down every single time he played cricket. Bring on Brad Hodge – he’s a home banker, every game.

Good to see a clutch of Aussie players get through Wimbledon’s first round, unlike the Brits, who suffered their usual catastrophe, losing six players with barely a whimper. Spare a thought for their No.1 female Anne Keothavong, who was asked by a member of the genius British press corps if he’d “let everybody down”. Nice. She walked out.
