As Football gets serious... Alpha corners the men who hold season 2010 in their hands. We have an exclusive interview with STEVE JOHNSON, the Geelong star that sees things others don’t. Mark Thompson (and others) tell why. ROBBIE FARAH, the tough yet creative Tigers skipper tells why his team should…
Amid the excitement of Rocco Mediate missing out on the Ryder Cup, Dinara Safina’s strong progress in the US Open tennis and England’s washed out one-dayer against South Africa, it’s difficult to know where to start. Perhaps the best place is the NRL judiciary, which sat up half the night trying to decide if Warriors full-back Wade McKinnon should be shot or hung.
In the end, he merely got hamstrung with a three-match ban, despite the prosecution bloke pushing for 11 and describing McKinnon’s act as “reprehensible”, which had the learned panel scrambling for their pop-up dictionaries (suitable for ages 3-7).
Poor Wade sat there in his best tie and told a sad tale of a double mouthguard (we’re intrigued, despite ourselves) and a recent sinus problem. He had to spit, y’honour, he just HAD to. Perhaps three matches is the best result to stop this nonsense going on any longer.
Anyway, back to Rocco Mediate…
“It’s nice to know that every gallon of petrol a Manchester United fan buys is going into our transfer kitty.”
Man City fan Noel Gallagher after an oil Sheikh took over the club.
Funny how the mind works. Mid-way through his early mid-life crisis, the last thing Andrew Symonds wants to do is hang around a bunch of boring-arse cricketers. Brett Lee, on the other hand, can’t wait to get back to the huddle. That’s just what the Bucket would want if his marriage broke down: Nathan Bracken and Shane Watson giggling at me over a pile of jocks.
At least this doesn’t happen over here too much: “Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Richard Collier remains in critical condition after being shot several times.” The odd brawl, yes, the occasional glassing, but when sportsmen get in trouble over in Seppoland, they really get in trouble.
